The site has seen 397 million song play outs so far. With an average of 4 minutes a song, it can safely be said that users have spent 1.6 billion minutes on Gaana, listening to the music of their choice.The site recorded 1.2 million unique visitors with 11.7 million song play outs within the first month of its launch.

Gaana recently launched its mobile app, making it available to users across platforms like iOS, Android, J2ME and Blackberry and the number of downloads thus far have been over 4 lakhs.

The site is currently India’s numero uno, with over 4.6 million unique visitors, spending an average of 28 minutes on the site. is also the first Indian site to integrate the Facebook Timeline app. With a vast content repertoire from across popular genres like Bollywood, Hindi, Regional and International music, is all about listening, discovering and sharing music.

The company intends to build a suite of applications around Gaana and have a developer ecosystem around it, according to Pawan Agarwal, the Business Head at Times Internet who handles Gaana. The company also has plans to open up APIs for Gaana.

Indie music, which is music produced independently from commercial record labels, is a new trend across the country. The spurt in music festivals like Sunburn and NH7 Weekender coupled with the growing popularity of EDM concerts and TV shows (like Sound Trippin on MTV and Sound Trekking on Fox Traveller) indicate huge potential of the indie music scene. Besides that independent music is a space which has potential simply because it is not as cluttered with Bollywood or pop music, areas which are already saturated.

Even Pepsi, is embarking on a co-branding initiative with Viacom’s youth and music platform, MTV, for a new Channel, that will focus on the indie genre, comprising independent artistes and bands, international artistes and English indie music.
