  • Bill Cosby faces up to 10 years in prison

Bill Cosby has been labelled a "sexually violent predator" by the judge sentencing him for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman over a decade ago.

Cosby was also labeled a sexually violent predator during his sentencing, meaning that he'll undergo counseling for the rest of his life.

Prosecutors had demanded five to 10 years in prison, after the three counts of aggravated indecent assault were merged into one, served in a state prison, together with a $25,000 fine and the full cost of the prosecution.

Cosby's maximum sentence could have been up to 30 years in prison, though cases similar to this with someone with no prior convictions have often resulted in one to four years. They argued that Cosby - who is legally blind - is too old and weak to do time in prison.

Pennsylvania's Sexual Offenders Assessment Board had already recommended Cosby be designated a "sexually violent predator" during the first day of his sentencing hearing.

On Tuesday, Constand submitted a victim impact statement to the judge, in which she recounted the day "a man I had come to know as a mentor and friend drugged and sexually assaulted me".

Trump's tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese imports kick in
Trump earlier this month accused China of targeting rural voters who support his presidency by hitting agricultural goods. The pair of powerhouse economies have already implemented tariffs on $50 billion worth of one another's exports.

Bill Cosby is now a convicted sex offender. Reactions were mixed to the sentence for Cosby, who is 81 and blind.

"I have often asked myself why the burden of being the sole witness in two criminal trials had to fall to me". His wife, Camille, did not attend the sentencing hearing.

Cosby had remained on house arrest since his conviction.

O'Neill ordered Cosby to serve in "total confinement" for "no less than three years and no more than 10 years". Cosby declined to participate in the evaluation by Dudley, who said she came to her determination by reviewing trial transcripts and other reports.

Fast forward to 2015 and at the request of The Associated Press, U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno unsealed deposition testimony Cosby gave during that civil case in which he described obtaining quaaludes to give women before sex.

Throughout the nearly two-day sentencing, the prosecution reiterated Cosby's crimes and what they call his "predatory" nature: "He violated Ms. Constand's trust, which, unbeknownst to her, he spent time and energy cultivating with the specific intent of having sexual contact with her".

His four bogeys over the last 10 holes cost him the No. 1 ranking back to Dustin Johnson , who shot 67 and finished third. The title takes Woods' PGA tally to 80 in his career, with only American Sam Snead ahead of him.

Once a towering figure in late 20th century American popular culture and the first black actor to grace primetime USA television, he brought no character witnesses, declined to address the court or emphasize past years of philanthropic work as mitigating circumstances in his favour.

Cosby faced anywhere from probation to 10 years in prison.

The AP does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they come forward publicly, which Constand and other accusers have done.

It was the second time Cosby had stood trial for the allegations, after an earlier jury failed to reach a verdict in June 2017.

Cosby broke barriers in the 1960s as the first black actor to star in a network show.

Across the television-watching world, he was revered for his signature role, affable obstetrician and father Cliff Huxtable on "The Cosby Show", which ran from 1984-92.
