  • Nowhere to run The driver forced a gate at Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport and was filmed speeding down the runway before he threw himself from the vehicle and started running

A dramatic viral video of the incident captures the moment the vehicle hurtled across a field at the airport - sending a cloud of dust into the air - and drove near the runway with police in hot pursuit.

Officers said the auto had come onto the runway during a high-speed pursuit by police cars and a helicopter as it drove in the wrong direction along a nearby motorway.

PARIS Pursued by police vehicles, a man smashed a stolen auto Monday into security barriers at two airports in Lyon, southeast France, and then crashed through two glass doors of a terminal and sped onto the runway, before being arrested.

The incident prompted the suspension of all flights in and out of Lyon Saint-Exupery airport, France's third largest.

He also suggested in the same response that he could fit in New England or with the Dallas' NFC East rivals in Washington. While he took several shots at his former team, Bryant did say he wouldn't be doing so on a weekly basis.

He then smashed into a toll booth and charged across airport land chased by 20 police and gendarmerie cars, motorcyclists and a helicopter.

The motive of the driver, whose identity has not yet been made public, was not clear, the source said.

The man, aged 31 and believed to be French, was previously known to police only for traffic violations, in 2007 and 2009, the official said.

The driver, dressed in dark clothing, then abandoned the auto and fled on foot.

Highway police and a police helicopter laid chase, the regional government said in a statement.

The driver first smashed through a security barrier at the Lyon-Bron business airport before changing direction and heading to Lyon's main Saint-Exupery airport about 20km away.

There, the man rammed through more security barriers.
