Wake Forest assistant basketball coach Jamil Jones surrendered to police on Thursday (Aug. 9), charged with an assault in New York City that resulted in the death of a tourist, according to authorities.

According to police, Jones allegedly punched Sandor Szabo in the face following a confrontation in the early morning hours Sunday that began when Szabo knocked on Jones' auto window thinking it was his Uber ride.

Jones was arrested and charged on Thursday for assaulting a tourist in Queens, per a police report obtained by Sports Illustrated.

Jones emerged from his SUV and punched Szabo, who fell to the ground, hit his head and later died at a local hospital, according to police and court documents.

Szabo later died from his injuries, according to the New York Post's David K. Li.

Jones was with his family after the court session, his attorney, Alain Massena, told the AP.
