Volunteers and rescue workers were putting up more temporary shelters on Wednesday for the tens of thousands of people left homeless by the magnitude-6.9 quake on Sunday evening.

"Before the quake we employed 240 staff: that's 240 families who depend on the business of the hotel to actually live", said Stephane Servin, owner of The Santosa Villas and Resort in the beachfront district of Senggigi, who will have to close for around eight months to rebuild.

Sarah said: "The whole room started to move, we got out as fast as possible and were outside with everyone staying the in place we were".

A distraught Muhamad Juanda said Tuesday that "people were praying in two rows; there are about 50 people in each row so a total of 100 people praying inside the mosque". His wife Maude, 44, said the family was on Bali for the first quake and Lombok for the second.
