Apple Pulls Five InfoWars Podcasts From iTunes Over 'Hate Speech'

  • Most of Info Wars and Alex Jones' podcasts have been given the boot on iTunes

Apple, Facebook, and Spotify have removed the work of Alex Jones from their platforms in a sweeping crackdown on the popular conspiracy theorist.

Apple, Spotify and Facebook each removed the majority of conservative radio show host Alex Jones' content from their platforms, citing community guidelines against hate speech.

An Apple spokesperson was not available for comment early on Monday.

In a statement, a YouTube spokesperson said the decision follows prior warnings to Jones about his content. Last week, Facebook removed four videos on four of Jones' pages for violating its hate speech and bullying policies, according to a statement put out by the media platform.

Separately, Facebook said it had removed four pages operated by Jones and Infowars after receiving new complaints about their content.

US pledges nearly US$300m security funding for Southeast Asia
This pledge from the United States comes at a time when the Indo-Pacific tirade between the USA and China has intensified. These span a range of areas including terrorism, cyber security, climate change, irregular migrants and maritime matters.

Most of USA conspiracy theorist Alex Jones's podcasts from his right-wing media platform Infowars have been removed from Apple's iTunes and podcast apps, the media news website BuzzFeed quoted a company spokesman as saying on Sunday. The source said Jones received a 90-day moratorium on livestreaming for violating its policies, and that he then tried to promote his livestreams on other YouTube sites, prompting a permanent ban.

Jones spread the outrageous theory that Democrats would launch a civil war on July 4, and he's repeatedly pushed the false claim that the deadly 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 27 people was a hoax.

And hate speech language violations may be the best weapon against provocateurs like Jones.

While Jones has been widely criticized for spreading fake news-like "Pizzagate", the completely baseless claim that senior Democrats were running a pedophile ring in the basement of a DC pizzeria-disseminating untrue information isn't considered grounds for removing content from either YouTube or Facebook. Facebook also put Jones into a penalty box, preventing him from posting any updates to the service for 30 days.

It also said they represent various views if "people are respectful to those with differing opinions".

Samsung accidentally leaked the Galaxy Note 9 again
From all the renders and leaks we've seen, we can speculate with some confidence as to what the Galaxy Note 9 will look like. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been leaked ahead of its August 9 launch , and this time again it is from the company itself.

In addition, last month both YouTube and Facebook penalised the alt-right agitator for violating their community-standards guidelines and deleted four videos he posted to the services.

Apple has removed the American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from its podcast directory, in the most significant move yet by a major technology company against the broadcaster.

And one of the site's editors Paul Joseph Watson addressed the action taken by Facebook in a post on Twitter saying, "this sets a chilling precedent for free speech".

That decision apparently catalyzed other tech giants to take action on Monday (August 6).

All of those shows have been removed from Apple Podcasts save for one, Real News with David Knight, which at present is still on the platform.
