Dozens Of Salads And Wraps May Contain A Fecal Parasite, USDA Warns

  • Health alert issued for beef, poultry, and pork products over Cyclospora concern

The USDA said in its alert the issue was discovered after Indianapolis-based food distributor Caito Foods "received notification from their lettuce supplier, Fresh Express, that the chopped romaine that is used to manufacture some of their salads and wraps was being recalled".

However, according to FSIS, no illnesses have been linked to the latest recall but it warns any consumer who is concerned about the illness to contact a health care provider. This time, the unfortunate honor has fallen on Walgreens, Kroger, and Trader Joe's, which have been forced to recall salads and wraps possibly contaminated with the cyclospora parasite.

The USDA did not respond to a request for comment. They have the establishment number "EST". Products sold at stores in North Carolina are not affected. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently announced that the McDonald's outbreak was tied to Fresh Express salad mix, which was distributed to McDonald's.

Chelsea unconcerned by Willian absence, player flying back Tuesday
Costa stunned Chelsea last summer by refusing to return for pre-season training due to his desire to move to Atlético Madrid. Whatever the reason for Willian's absence, it's unlikely to go down well with new manager Maurizio Sarri.

It is unclear whether the Fresh Express recall is only for business-to-business romaine sales - such as those to other food producers, restaurants and facilities such as hospitals and schools - or if it includes products sold directly to consumers.

The Cyclospora parasite causes intestinal illness after people consume food or water contaminated by it, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The summer has been rife with recalls and reported cyclospora infections, especially in IL.

Fort Myers college student goes missing while swimming in Israel
Two of the students made it out, but said Jones never made her way back to the shoreline, reports the Daily Mail . But "the furthest I've known her to go is to stand and wade at the shore of the water and take pictures".

The salads and wraps, which contain beef, pork and poultry, were sold nationwide at Trader Joe's, Walgreens, and Kroger locations, according to Q13 Fox.

The symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramping, nausea, weight loss, and fatigue.

The department said 160 cases of cyclospora infections were also linked to an Independence Day celebration July 3 at the Evanston Golf Club in Skokie.
