In a joint statement at their Singapore summit on June 12, President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un committed to recovering the remains of prisoners of war and those missing in action decades after the Korean War - "including the immediate repatriation of those already identified".

Mr Trump said on Tuesday that talks with Pyongyang were going fine.

"Discussions are ongoing and they're going very, very well", Trump told reporters.

Earlier this week, Trump also had an extensive one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he said they discussed reducing nuclear weapons worldwide.

US intelligence officials have said Russian election interference efforts are continuing and now target the upcoming congressional elections in November.

More than a month later, no concrete progress has been reported and North Korea has complained that the United States is making unilateral demands. He also said: "There is no rush, the sanctions remain!"

North Korea analyst Cheong Seong-chang, with the Sejong Institute in South Korea, says the new patient approach by the Trump administration may indicate a growing recognition that its prior demands for rapid and unilateral denuclearization before granting any concessions are unrealistic.

The United States will receive the remains of American service members in the coming weeks from North Korea, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday.

Trump said that Putin would be involved "in the sense that he is with us". Diplomats are expected to finalize the details.
