  • Apple Music might have overtaken Spotify and have more paying US subscribers

While this is far from official - with the report being based on an anonymous source - it is in keeping with the general feeling from earlier in the year when it was thought that Apple Music probably was going to overtake Spotify in the near future. Today, five months later, it has reportedly come to pass.

Apple Music had from 21 million to 21.5 million subscribers in the U.S.as of last week, while Spotify had between 22 million to 22.5 million, according to unnamed executive sources cited by theFinancial Times. But Apple's service has grown faster. Last year, Apple had 13 million US subscribers compared to Spotify's 17 million subscribers.

Tony Parker agrees to deal with Hornets, reports say
The six-time All-Star is the No. 4 all-time scorer in Spurs history and the franchise's career assists leader. In March, a frustrated Parker told the media that his injury was "a hundred times worse" than Leonard's.

The data for 2018 also shows that Apple is experiencing a far stronger rate-of-growth in the USA, suggesting a wider lead over the coming months. The data was specifically referring to paid users as well, so no one still on either Apple or Spotify's free trial was included.

Globally, however, Spotify is still in the lead with over 160 million subscribers. And the more credible Financial Times reports that the Apple Music subscriber base, at 21 to 21.5 million, is still slightly behind Spotify's, at 22 to 22.5 million.

A year ago, Spotify boasted 17 million US subscribers, compared to 13 million for Apple music. But while the headlines have been zeroed in on every move the platform makes, Apple Music has been steadily and silently edging ahead of the competition. Back then the Apple US-based subscriber growth rate was 5 percent in the country as compared to Spotify's 2 percent.

Looked at more broadly, however, Apple serves what should be a fairly narrow market of iPhone owners, where Spotify is popular on both Android and iPhone.

Thierry Henry and Eden Hazard console emotional Neymar
Brazil nearly equalised immediately, Neymar dribbling down the left and finding Gabriel, only for his effort to go amiss. They paid an immediate price when Fernandinho nodded Eden Hazard's corner into his own net unpressured after 13 minutes.

The next big battle between Apple Music and Spotify will be for the global music streaming crown, with Apple now boasting 45 million paying users worldwide versus 70 million for Spotify.
