The newspaper reports that Team Sky will appeal the ruling to the court of arbitration of the French Olympic Committee who will decide on Wednesday whether or not Froome can race. A decision is set to be made the following day, with just three days to go until the start in the Vendee on July 7.

ASO, it was reported, believed they could win any legal challenge from Froome's Team Sky outfit due to their rules about safeguarding the image of the race.

A Team Sky spokesman also told The Guardian: "We are confident that Chris will be riding the Tour as we know he has done nothing wrong".

Froome is permitted to continue racing while awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation and has already vowed to compete in this year's Tour.

The Brit has been continued to compete despite the ongoing doping case against him and won the Giro D'Italia in May.

Froome would thereby join four other men to have won the Tour de France five times - Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.

He expects to win the anti-doping case.

The news that they were excluding Froome was leaked by French daily Le Monde on Sunday, and confirmed to AFP by sources close to the organizers.

Prudhomme, once a journalist, would not blame the situation on the UCI's president, David Lappartient, who took over the position from Brian Cookson last autumn.

Froome and Team Sky have denied any wrongdoing.

Team Sky have yet to unveil their eight-strong team.

Froome is appealing against an adverse analytical finding at last year's Vuelta a Espana.

British rider Chris Froome has been reportedly banned from the Tour de France.

Despite his saga stretching back into 2017, Froome's case has not yet been resolved by the authorities.
