Character Assassins Come for Ocasio-Cortez

04 July, 2018, 08:28 | Author: Kim Reid
  • Alexandria Ocasio Cortez staged the biggest upset so far in the 2018 election cycle by defeating a 10-term congressman in New York City. Soon after her two-minute biographical campaign video was shared widely

On Twitter, the reaction was mixed, with some supporting Cardillo and suggesting that Ocasio-Cortez had misled people by playing up her Bronx roots (her campaign bio states she went to school 40 minutes from the Bronx, where her father was a business-owner and many of her family members lived) while others criticized Cardillo for attempting to discredit the political newcomer and her socialist credentials.

I am responding to them in no particular order at this point, so don't be offended if you haven't heard back!

However, a recent New York Times report revealed Ocasio-Cortez moved to a suburb in Westchester County as a child, and conservatives couldn't wait to pounce on that and use it as ammo!

The DNC chief added that he has "great respect" for Ocasio-Cortez's primary opponent, Rep. Joe Crowley, whom Perez called a "good Democrat" and a "class act". Blueglass said he has kept in touch with Ocasio-Cortez, having breakfast with her just two months ago.

"What's this tell you about where the Democratic Party is going today?" he asked. "And I think that that's a very important distinction", said Ms. Ocasio-Cortez on NBC's "Meet the Press".

"Fast forward to now, and the people of NY-14 have spoken, and now she is only an election away from getting into Congress and being the first woman of color to represent her native Bronx neighborhood and district of NY-14", he said.

"I didn't go to Brown or the Ivy League".
