Talking about the chances DeMarcus Cousins' potential addition to the Lakers via free agency might affect the odds of James joining the team, Clutch Points suggested that it would mostly depend on whether Cousins "can keep his head on straight".

Social media reacted to the news and quickly pointed out rules in the league's collective bargaining agreement that protect teams from a player attempting to sit out. Los Angeles already added the likes of Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee, so now they look towards some star players they could pick up.

Cousins also gives the Warriors another shooter that can shoot from just about anywhere.

LeBron James, Magic Johnson Yet To Meet
The 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers are seen as the favorites to sign James on the NBA's free-agent market. While every team dreams of being ruled by King James, only a few have a legit chance of signing him.

The earliest that National Basketball Association free agents can sign their new contracts is at 11 a.m. CDT Friday.

Cousins had last season cut short because of a ruptured Achilles tendon he suffered in the dying seconds of a game against the Houston Rockets in late January.

That's a tricky area to maneuver, so the Silver and Black might be better off finding a trade package before the season starts.

Evident in games against Iceland and Croatia , he is nearly immediately surrounded by 3 players anytime he has the ball. Is the future going to be at this World Cup or rather Euro 2020? He just keeps scoring goals after goals .

The biggest question Cousins faces going forward is how he'll recover from the Achilles injury and whether he'll ever be able to return to All-Star form. "I haven't spoken to the front office in a while, so we'll see what happens".

With the market now officially open, it's time for Johnson to live up to his name and work his magic to convince the likes of LeBron James and Paul George to bring their talents to California. The scenario that's been placed out there is George and James signing with the Lakers, who haven't made the playoffs the last five years after going 35-47 this season, their best finish since 2012-13. "But for me, I'm shooting to be ready for training camp". In his seventh season with Sacramento, the Kings traded Cousins to the Pelicans at the All-Star break during the 2016-17 season.

He's documented aspects of his rehabilitation process on his social media accounts over the past few months and Pelicans general manager Dell Demps told reporters in June that Cousins is "right on schedule" in his recovery. Cousins out rebounded both centers on the roster, averaging 1.6 blocks per game.
