  • See Phil Mickelson's bizarre meltdown on the green at the U.S. Open

Shinnecock Hills has not been kind to golfers this week at the 2018 U.S. Open, but Phil Mickelson suffered some self-inflicted damage Saturday. Mickelson hit his bogey putt well past the hole and it appeared that it might roll off the green.

"That's the most out of character I've ever seen Phil Mickelson", Paul Azinger said on the Fox broadcast.

Mickelson would shoot an 11-over 81 in the third round that dropped him to 17 over for the week and in 65th place.

It was reminiscent of John Daly hitting a moving ball at Pinehurst No. 2 in the 1999 US Open.

Don't cross Trump: Lessons learned from Rep. Mark Sanford's surprise defeat
Still, Sanford is only the latest casualty in the intra-party conflict that has roiled the GOP in the Trump era. AP also projects Charleston attorney Joe Cunningham will be the Democratic nominee in the 1st District.

A loophole that some will consider against the general ethos of the game, Mickelson confirmed that there were "multiple times he wanted to do it" before today's incident on the 13th.

With six runners-up placings on his CV, the US Open clearly owed him one and although he began 10 behind halfway leader Dustin Johnson, hopes were high of a Mickelson charge.

And just in case you didn't understand, he added the following while speaking to reporters: "If somebody's offended by that, I apologize".

As he walked off the green, he could be seen smiling and talking to playing partner Andrew Johnston, who also was smiling. On the 18th hole in the second round, Triplett stuck his putter in the ground as a backstop when his ball was headed back down from the hole. After some confusion, his score was changed to a 10 to reflect the two-stroke penalty for hitting a moving ball.

Questions Remain After The Historic North Korean Summit
In their joint statement , the two leaders promised to "build a lasting and stable peace regime" on the Korean Peninsula. And pausing military exercises is exactly the kind of reciprocal move China has pushed the U.S.to take in the past.

Mickelson took a two-shot penalty for the infraction, then finished up for what was initially reported to be a quadruple bogey nine. "That would have saved me a shot or two back then".

Match play - Loss of hole; Stroke play - Two strokes.

"No question it was going to go down into the same spot behind the bunker and I wasn't going to have a shot".
