The death of designer Kate Spade by suicide in NY this week shocked the fashion world.

Minnesota was one of the states with the biggest suicide-rate increases.

Dr. Schabbing says she's not surprised by the new statistics but says they point to a need for more education and more conversations about suicide and some of the warning signs.

North Dakota experienced the greatest increase (57 percent). In the four months after Robin William's took his own life in 2014, there was a 10% increase - nearly 2,000 additional suicides - recorded. It is now the 10-leading cause of death in the USA, and is one of only three leading causes of death that are on the rise. Suicide deaths in Colorado saw a 34.1 increase during the years studied.

A soldier took a military troop transport from Fort Pickett , Virginia, and drove it at high speeds on I-95, police said . He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, felony eluding police and felony unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain this week reflect what federal health officials say is a rising trend nationwide. "We have to change culture around mental health, giving help and support", said Allen. Over the past decade, the county averaged 153 suicides each year, peaking in 2012 with 170.

This week's report found that many suicides were in people with no known mental illness. The CDC encourages coordination and cooperation from every sector of society, including government, public health, healthcare, employers, education, media and community organizations.

Misty Vaughan Allen, a suicide-prevention coordinator at the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), told Newsweek that the department's work with the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention has helped lower the rate of suicide in the state. In Ohio, suicides were up 36 percent. Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers' Association executive director Lynn Keltz says, mental health should be treated the same way as physical health. Texas and Nebraska, which have slightly higher suicide rates, have comparatively loose gun laws.

"We have to keep working on stigma", Zietlow-DeJesus said.

David Spade 'can't believe' sister-in-law Kate Spade is dead
The comedian shared multiple photos of the two smiling together, describing the designer as "so sharp and quick on her feet". In the 25 years since Kate Spade's founding of her handbag line, the name has become a byword for a certain preppy style.

"[People think] wow they have to deal with that and we didn't even know it".

Many factors contribute to suicide, with the CDC reporting data from the National Violent Death Reporting System from 2015 which shows 42 percent have relationship problems, 29 percent experience a crisis, 28 percent have problems with substance abuse, and 16 percent have an issue with finances or their jobs.

Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
