Authorities captured an alligator in a Florida pond after a witness' report led police to believe the animal may have dragged a woman into the water. From 1948 to 2017, 401 unprovoked bite incidents have occurred in Florida with 24 of these proving fatal.

Residents in the area said that alligators were known to be in the water, and they wouldn't let their dogs walk without a leash because of this.

Signage warning of possible alligators in any area is not required by Florida law, Klepper said.
