  • The Active Shooter game has been removed from Steam after received an angry blacklash

Active Shooter is scheduled for release June 6, but it appeared briefly Tuesday on Valve Corporation's popular Steam marketplace before public backlash caused its removal, CNET reported.

Following a whirlwind of controversy over content versus free speech, Valve has chose to yank the game Active Shooter from Steam, but it didn't stop there. The developer took it a step further, however, and announced a game mode that would allow players to be in control of the shooter, with the goal being to kill as many students and law enforcement officials as possible.

But Valve said in a statement to several media outlets that it was cancelling the release of the game created by developer Revived Games and publisher ACID. "We can't expect those people to be the only ones who stand up against things like this".

Alberto approaches Panhandle, as more rain expected in Central Florida
A Tropical Storm Warming is in effect for the northern Gulf Coast from the Suwannee River to the Mississippi-Alabama border. Alberto has maximum sustained winds of near 65mph and those speeds are expected before the storm makes landfall.

The statement concluded by noting that Steam will soon have a "broader conversation" about their content policies.

Steam is an online digital distribution platform for video games, which was developed by Valve. Should the content of a game be reason enough to pull it from Steam?

Other Revived Games titles are also no longer available on Steam, including Tyde Pod Challenge and White Power: Pure Voltage. But Valve is a big well-known gaming company, and had been the target of much of the criticism against the game. Berdiyev, meanwhile, was previously booted from Valve' platform after releasing a game called Piccled Ricc based on an episode of Cartoon Network's "Rick and Morty". If made by a more reputable developer, was Active Shooter something you would have considered purchasing?

Professional video gamer "Siefe" explained the video game's premise and how he couldn't believe the game was on Steam in the first place. Groups of users on the site have posted comments celebrating school shooters in the past, according to a March article from Vice publication Motherboard. She said that she was shocked that it took a British news organization rather than a Seattle one to inform her about the game.

A violent video game is sparking outrage, it lets children play the role of a gunman on a murder spree at school.

All that to say, Active Shooter's alleged developer has a history of making crass tie-ins that attempt to capture the zeitgeist, regardless of subject matter.
