That's why Fitbit and Google want to bring healthcare providers into the loop.

Fitbit will use Google Cloud's services, including the Google Cloud Healthcare API, that looks to improve clinical services for patients, and improve diagnostics through machine learning. It could also analyze data to determine future health outcomes.

The agreement between Fitbit Inc and Google isn't just limited to the Cloud Healthcare API.

Bookies' favorites included Arthur , Albert , James , Alexander, Thomas, Frederick and Philip, the BBC and The Sun reported. It could also be a nod to Lord Louis Mountbatten , who Prince Charles described as "the grandfather I never had".

"This collaboration will accelerate the pace of innovation to define the next generation of healthcare and wearables", he added. Also fitting into the scheme of things would be the companies that actually manufacture the wearable devices. Working together provides an exciting opportunity to leverage Fitbit's leading wearables brand, community, data, and popular devices alongside Google's expertise in building platforms, software and services.

Gregory Moore, Vice President of Google Cloud Healthcare, has said that together the two companies will "have the opportunity to deliver up-to-date information to providers, enhancing their ability to follow and manage the health of their patients and guide their treatment".

Clinicians are able to gain powerful insights into the health of their patients through a range of data, including tracking steps walked, physical activity, heart rate, sleep, weight, and more. For Fitbit, the API could allow it to better connect user data to electronic medical records. The two companies will also seek to help better manage chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes by making use of services such as Twine Health. In terms of partnerships, this one makes sense - if you ignore the concerning data sharing practices.

Fitbit Inc also points out that there are several other benefits to it moving onto Google's Cloud Healthcare API. This will save Fitbit from having to reinvent the wheels all over again as they are getting to make good use of existing facility without having to set up one of their own.

At the time of publishing, we haven't heard back from Fitbit. If the CEs are working with the vendors, the healthcare providers should inquire about the kinds of security and privacy precautions the vendors have implemented, he says. This technology allows Fitbit to protect consumer information, and to provide more robust health data for users.
