  • A Video of Two Men Being Arrested in Starbucks Has Gone Viral

Johnson made his announcement after he met with two Black men police arrested when the manager of a Center City, Philadelphia, Starbucks complained they wouldn't leave the coffee shop after they weren't allowed to use the restroom because they hadn't purchased anything.

Ross said he failed to understand the business model and that it is "reasonable to believe" the arresting officers did not know about it either. "I should not at all be the person that is a party to making anything worse relative to race matters". Initially, as soon as they approached us, they said we have to leave.

The two men who were racially profiled at a Philadelphia Starbucks and arrested for "trespassing" have spoken out for the first time since their arrest and said they feared for their lives.

"This is a people thing", Rashon Nelson said in appearing with Donte Robinson on ABC's Good Morning America.

Nelson and Robinson, who've been best friends since the fourth grade, were planning to meet with Andrew Yaffe, a local businessman, who entered the Starbucks during the arrest and started recording it.

"The arrest of two Black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks represents another ominous signal on the increasingly unsafe environment for African Americans", wrote Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP.

Starbucks announced Tuesday that it would close its 8,000 USA stores for several hours next month to conduct racial-bias training for its almost 175,000 workers.

Officers reportedly walked up to Nelson and Robinson and told them that they had to leave. "You're going to do it, whether you act on it or not".

"Previously we did not have such a policy. but we have a policy now", he said.

The two men arrested at a Starbucks in Philadelphia, US, last week have finally spoken up about the incident. Of course, no eyewitnesses said Donte and Rashon were disrespectful nor was that on video.

According to TIME magazine, Nelson and Robinson were waiting in the coffee shop last week for a third person to join them in a meeting about a real estate deal. The two men had asked to use the bathroom while waiting for a friend, but an employee had them removed, citing that they had not bought anything.

"One training to help you acknowledge that is a great start...the employees at the stores will learn enough to move forward in taking some actions independently", she said.

In addition, the company said it "began a review of its training and practices to make important reforms where necessary to ensure our stores always represent our mission and values, by providing a safe and inclusive environment for our customers and partners".

After the incident, Ross defended his officers and said they did nothing wrong. Do you stand up?

"You go from being someone who's just trying to be an entrepreneur, having your own dreams and aspirations, and then this happens", Nelson said. "We do want a seat at the table".

At the behest of the community group POWER (People Organized to Witness, Empower and Rebuild), and its allies including Juntos, the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Action Network and the Guardian Civic League, came to the Mother Bethel AME Church to talk about ways to improve the situation both short and long-term. "You can and should expect more from us".

The coffeehouse chain, which is also closing its corporate offices on May 29, said a curriculum is being developed for its 175,000 employees, with assistance from several racial bias training experts. The video of the two men's arrests went viral and has been seen more than 10 million times.
