Sensex Ends 95 Points Higher; TCS Gains Ahead Of Q4 Earnings

Sensex opened 100 points higher than the yesterday's closing of 34,331.68 and was trading at 34,411.66 at 11:18 am.

The NSE Nifty50 edged higher by 20.35 points or 0.19 per cent to close at 10,548.70 points, while the Sensex settled at 34,395.06 points - up 89.63 points or 0.26 per cent.

Positive Asian cues and the rally in metals & FMCG stocks boosted sentiment, but the sharp correction in oil retailers capped upside. The BSE Sensex rose 95.61 points or 0.28 per cent to end at 34,427.29 while the Nifty50 index added 39.10 points or 0.37 per cent to end above the 10550 mark at 10.565.30. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Sail also gained between 3-4 per cent.

As much as 60 per cent stocks in the Nifty index closed in green with Hindalco climbing almost 9 per cent, followed by Vedanta (up 6.65 per cent), Tata Steel (up 3.29 per cent), YES Bank (up 2.89 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 2.64 per cent). The shares of Axis Bank slumped 2.60 per cent while that of M&M, IndusInd Bank and Hero Motocorp dropped 1.55 per cent, 1.23 per cent and 0.97 per cent respectively. Shares of Hindalco soared over 9 per cent while shares of Vedanta Ltd, the Indian unit of diversified miner Vedanta Resources Plc, rose 6 per cent. Tata Steel shares gained over 3 per cent.

The Nifty IT index closed up a percent on depreciation in the rupee and ahead of TCS earnings later in the day.
