  • Report: Apple to launch premium magazine and news subscription service within a year

Just over a month after Apple acquired digital magazine app Texture, Bloomberg reports that the company is planning to integrate the service into Apple News and launch its own premium news subscription service. A part of the money will directly go to the publishers of Texture and this is how the giant will distribute the revenues earned through this new Apple News portal.

Apple shares took a hit in late March, falling as much as 10.4%, along with many other companies listed on the tech-heavy Nasdaq, after Facebook's Cambridge Analytica data scandal and President Donald Trump's crackdown on Chinese investment in USA technology rattled investors. The service gives users the option to subscribe to more than 200 magazines and read their content via the Texture app. It is only available in three markets: USA, the United Kingdom and Australia. An Apple news subscription service makes sense, no? Previously, Apple has Newsstand where it would allow readers to subscribe to individual magazines. Executives have said they're targeting services revenue of roughly $50 billion by 2021.

China to allow full foreign ownership of auto manufacturers in 5 years
This will be followed by the removal of ownership obstacles in 2022 for makers of commercial vehicles and passenger cars. The long-standing rule had been that foreign carmakers could only own a 50 percent share of a local venture.

It's worth noting Apple is no stranger to buying out services and turning them into subscriptions people actually want to use. In 2014, Apple spent $3 billion for Beats to jump-start its music services, and $15 million for BookLamp, which was then touted as a "Pandora for books".

Apple News made its way to iPhone and iPad with the launch of iOS 10. This time, Apple cut roughly 20 people from Texture, including assistants, software engineers, and managers, according to one of the people familiar with the matter. "We want the best articles, we want them to look wonderful, and we want them to be from trusted sources.so we don't have a lot of the issues going around", Cue said, likely alluding to the issues that Facebook and Google have had to deal with surrounding unverified news stories populating users' feeds.

Theresa May 'seeks full role' in Syria strikes
Multiple Islamic State retaliatory attacks have targeted French soil, including just last month. The Syrian government has denied the allegations.

The move has the potential to more than modestly alter the Apple News app, which now focuses nearly exclusively on providing free news to iOS users.
