  • Police to provide update on Bruce McArthur case today

The alleged Canadian serial killer accused of burying his victims in garden planters is now facing a seventh murder charge, prosecutors in Toronto announced Wednesday.

Police are also waiting for warmer weather to investigate other properties associated with McArthur, Idsinga said. McArthur appeared by video during the session. The 66-year-old self-employed landscaper is already facing six first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of six men with ties to the city's LGBTQ neighbourhood. Police are expected to update the public at 1:30 p.m. on three aspects of the investigation.

Some of the remains, police said, belong to 49-year-old Andrew Kinsman, 50-year-old Soroush Mahmudi, and 40-year-old Skandaraj Navaratnam.

Alleged victim Majeed Kayhan has not yet been identified.

Idsinga said Faisi, who was 42 when he disappeared on December 29, 2010, was one of the three men whose disappearances were linked through Project Houston, a task force launched by Toronto police in 2012, to look into the disappearances of the three men from Toronto's Gay Village.

Paramedics also treated and transported his passenger to the hospital in stable condition after she sustained an ear injury. The driver then got off the highway near Oak Park Mall, where a passenger left the suspect vehicle.

August 2017 - Police launch Project Prism to investigate the disappearances of Esen and Kinsman.

Idsinga said the remains of all but Mahmudi have been identified among those recovered from the planters at the central Toronto home.

Bruce McArthur, that looked in court by means of a movie link, has been charged with premature murder from the passing of Abdulbasir Faizi. As of now, the charges against McArthur haven't been proven in court.

February 8, 2018 - Police say they've recovered the remains of six people from planters at a house where McArthur worked as a landscaper, and say they expect to lay more charges.

McArthur, who appeared wearing an orange jumpsuit, spoke in court only to say his name and acknowledge that he understood the charges against him.

In addition to the ongoing homicide investigation, there are a number of other related probes, including an internal investigation that a source says is related to a previous police interview of McArthur.

April 14, 2017 - Selim Esen, 44, is reported missing from the area of Toronto's Yonge and Bloor streets.

The city's police board has also approved an external review, requested by Mayor John Tory, that will look into how the force handled the cases of men missing from the gay village.

When they then went to police, officers suggested he had probably just left, the relative said. They also release the photograph of a dead man believed to be a victim of McArthur in the hopes the public will help identify him.
