Rochelle later said she was acting on behalf of Femen, a European women's movement whose members paint messages on their topless bodies to protest the patriarchy, and to reclaim the bodies of women who have been disempowered through sexual assault.

The woman had writing on her body reading "Cosby", "rapist" and "Women's Lives Matter" in red ink and the names of women who have accused Cosby, 80, of sexual assault written on her torso in black ink.

Before the trial even started Monday morning, things got off to a wild start after former "Cosby Show" guest Nicolle Rochelle showed up outside the Pennsylvania courthouse topless, jumping the barricade and charging the comedian before being wrangled to the ground by authorities.

"The main goal was to make Cosby uncomfortable because that is exactly what he has been doing for decades to women", she told reporters over the phone after the incident.

Bill Cosby paid Andrea Constand almost $3.4 million to settle her 2005 lawsuit - a payment, a prosecutor said Monday, that was meant to buy her silence after the entertainer sexually assaulted her at his Cheltenham home.

Bottas was closing the gap on Vettel as his tyres faded and closed to within two seconds of the German going into the final laps. Sebastian Vettel holds off Valtteri Bottas to win the Bahrain Grand Prix on his 200th Formula 1 start.

The case stretches back to a night in January 2004 when Constand, who'd met Cosby while working as an operations director for the Temple University women's basketball team, says the comic legend drugged and sexually assaulted her at his suburban Philadelphia home.

In a 2005 deposition, Cosby said he gave Constand an over-the-counter antihistamine to relieve stress and that they had consensual relations, but admitted obtaining sedatives with a view to having sex.

The Montgomery County district attorney, Kevin R. Steele, told the jurors on Monday: "This case is about trust, This case is about betrayal, and that betrayal leading to a sexual assault of a woman named Andrea Constand".

Following the protest, the Montgomery County D.A.'s Office announced that Rochelle had been charged with disorderly conduct, which is defined as, "the intent to cause a public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm or recklessly creating a risk thereof".

The jurors - seven men and five women - took the oath to be fair and impartial around 2:30 p.m. on Monday so the trial could finally be under way. "After this gets released, we go to her".

Meanwhile, a topless protestor attempted to approach Cosby as he walked into court on Monday. Cosby's lawyers wanted the juror removed from the case. Andrea and her mother Gianna already testified about the call in the first trial that unfortunately ended in a mistrial.

Cosby seemed startled by the commotion as protesters chanted at him, but he was not touched and is uninjured.

Mr Cosby enjoyed a family-friendly reputation for years before numerous sexual assault allegations came to light in 2015.

While Judge Steven T. O'Neill did not announce a ruling, all 12 jurors - along with six alternates - were in court for the opening statement.

Prosecutors have lined up a parade of five additional accusers to make the case that the man revered as "America's Dad" lived a double life as one of Hollywood's biggest predators.
