IOS Bug Workaround: How To Prevent Siri From Reading Out Hidden Notifications

25 March, 2018, 01:19 | Author: Shannon Newton
  • All you need to do to see these hidden messages is ask Siri to read them out loud

Brazilian website Mac Magazine reported that a bug in all versions of iOS 11, including the latest iOS 11.3 (beta), allows Siri to read out content from app notifications even when they've been hidden. That apart, a new bug discovered by Mac Magazine seems to be the most notorious one. The more preferable option for those wanting to see the notifications on the lock screen, however, would be to turn off Siri when the device is secure by heading to "Siri & Search" in the Settings and disabling the option to "Allow Siri When Locked".

Fortunately, any messages or notifications sent to Apple's own Messages app, iMessage, are still protected. The company said, "We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update". Considering the iOS 11.3 is still in beta testing, Apple could add a fix to the bug before it publicly releases the software in the coming weeks.

Trump's China tariffs risk backfiring on USA business
Trump has been pressing Beijing to cut the country's trade surplus with the $100 billion. The typical consumer has about $260 in extra purchasing power as a result of trade with China.

All it takes is the initiation of Siri and a command that reads: "Hey Siri, read my notifications".

While facial scans are secured on the iPhone itself, a host of app developers can gather and store information on "how often users blink, smile, or even raise an eyebrow", according to MacRumors. With the existence of the bug, most of the notifications on iPhone X can be read out loud without requiring owner's permission. Interestingly, Siri does ask you to unlock the iPhone X if you ask it to read the last email or last note. You can also disable lock screen notifications on a per-app basis by going to Settings Notifications and then select a specific app.

Is PUBG Mobile full of bots?
The last tally for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on the Xbox One was 5 million players which Microsoft announced about a week ago. It comes not long after the launch of an invite-only test for Fortnite Mobile , which is now only playable on iOS.

On the iPhone X, notification previews are hidden by default and details are shown only after Face ID authentication. Apparently, this setting correctly stops Siri from reading out messages at the lockscreen. From what I can tell, as long as they don't show up on the lock screen, Siri will say that you don't have any new notifications and ignore those arriving in the background.
