The family of the 14-year-old girl who Jamie Carragher spat on has urged Sky Sports not to sack the ex-Liverpool defender.

"Sky takes this matter extremely seriously and strongly condemns Jamie's actions", Sky said in a statement. "It falls well below the standards we expect of our people".

Now Carragher has issued a full apology to the girl and her father, as he has confirmed he as been in touch with the duo to express his regret over the incident.

Although the former footballer has issued a number of apologies since the incident on Saturday, Sky have made a decision to relieve the pundit from his duties for the foreseeable future.

And he has gone ahead to ask Kenyans to give the two leaders maximum support toward the unity efforts. This led to convening of a NASA summit where arising issues were ironed out.

The footage, following Liverpool's 2-1 loss to United on Saturday afternoon, shows Carragher taking offense to taunts from the teenage girl's father on the road and winding down his window to spit at the vehicle.

In the clip, the United fan rolled down the window of the passenger seat, where his daughter was sitting, and taunted Carragher about Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Writing on Twitter following the incident, Carragher said he had apologised to the family for his behaviour, which he called "totally out of order", but added "I was goaded 3/4 times along the motorway while being filmed & lost my rag".

"There is no doubt what I have done is disgusting".

"Again, all I can do right now is apologise as much as possible". I have a daughter of the same age and if someone had done that to her I don't know how I would respond. "I apologise for it and am getting vilified - and rightly so". As I've said, it's hard to explain, the moment of madness - four or five seconds where I've lost it, basically - and I've made a huge mistake and I've apologised for that. "This a bad stain on me, my character, my career". They've made it be known there that they're very disappointed and understandably so.

"I don't want people to think I'm giving an excuse". You get that, that's part of being a public figure.

"This whole sorry incident I've dragged this family into has been devastating for them and close family around myself and it's all come from my actions".

The report also provided further quotes from Carragher about the incident: "It was a bit more than, 'Hiya Jamie, it was 2-1.' It went on for two or three times".
