Microsoft is giving Windows developers another reason to look forward to this spring's Windows 10 feature update, code-named Redstone 4. While Windows 10 S was launched to be a lite version of the Windows platform that could power lower-cost laptops to compete with Chromebooks, it actually hides the full version of Windows 10 inside. News of this transition leaked back in early February, and now Microsoft's operating systems vice president, Joe Belfiore, has confirmed the change on Twitter.

While Microsoft will be abandoning Windows 10 S but, it will not abandon its Windows '10 S users as Microsoft will be giving free Win 10 Home upgrade to Windows 10 S Users.

Less than one year ago, Microsoft unveiled a new version of its Windows platform called Windows 10 S. It was a curious endeavor right from the get-go. For a $50 fee, any Windows 10 S machine can be transformed into a full-fledged Windows 10 computer.

The tweet was response to a question about branding confusion, with regard to the education-focused version of the operating system's market share. S Mode will enable any Windows 10 PC to be toggled into the Windows 10 S sandbox.

IEA: US to dominate the oil industry

Soon, if a school or business wants to lock down its Windows 10 devices, it can simply turn on 10S mode, without Microsoft having to gimp an entire category of devices. Tabs in File Explorer has been a much-requested feature in Windows for years, and a lot of users will be pleased to see the addition of tabs in Windows later this year. Futuresource reported that Google's Chromebooks continue to dominate the USA school market, with a 59.6 percent share in the fourth quarter of 2017, but added that Microsoft has seen growing adoption through its expanding lineup of lower-cost, education-focused Windows devices. The third benefit that Microsoft pointed out is rather obvious, and that's flexibility, since developers can now choose whether to process this data on the device, or in the cloud. Chrome OS has also been expanded to higher-end devices, giving these same audiences the option to opt for more power with devices such as the Google Pixelbook.
