Weinstein was one of the movie industry's most influential men, powering independent movies such as "The King's Speech" and "Shakespeare in Love" to Oscar best picture wins.

He was sacked from the company that bears his name, banned from the Producer's Guild of America and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Maria Contreras-Sweet- a former member of the Obama administration who is expected to be the head of the company's new board- has said that the deal marks "a new vision that embodies the principles that we have stood by since we began this process last fall".

The artist - whose real name is unknown - said it took two months to make the statue, and it was paid for by donations.
