  • Intel Spectre And Meltdown Patches

Intel's newest patch comes two months after the defects were first revealed to the public, but nine months after the flaws were first reported to the company.

Intel is facing lawsuits due to their alleged actions and inactions over the recently publicized Spectre and Meltdown exploits.

Intel has updated its buggy Spectre microcode patches with all-new patches for 6th-gen (Skylake, 100 series chipsets), 7th-gen (Kaby Lake, 200 series chipsets), and 8th-gen (Coffee Lake, 300 series chipsets) motherboards / CPUs.

Patching all of its processors to protect them from Spectre based attacks has already taken Intel quite some time and those running older chips will have to wait longer before their systems are fully patched.

It's been nearly a month since Intel yanked some of its earliest patches for the Spectre vulnerabilities because of system instability and unexpected reboots.

Netanyahu's associates remanded in custody amid corruption probe
Police have not commented on what Packer may have received, and Netanyahu has said everything he received were gifts from friends. Netanyahu swiftly and angrily denied any suggestion that he made an offer to a potential attorney general as "ludicrous".

"This effort has included extensive testing by customers and industry partners to ensure the updated versions are ready for production", wrote Navin Shenoy, executive VP of Intel's Data Center Group.

In a press release published on Tuesday, Intel announced it resumed the deployment of CPU microcode firmware updates.

Earlier in February, Intel released production microcode for some Skylake platforms and is addressing additional Skylake platforms with the latest update.

Intel's patch roadmap also indicates that beta patches for Broadwell, Haswell, and Ivy Bridge-based PCs are in the works.

Some hard pressed techies dealing with the fallout of the design flaws are not yet convinced of Intel's latest microcode update, at least ones that expressed doubts on Reddit.

He said that the updates should also provide protection against the Google-developed binary modification technique Retpoline.

Major tech companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, and Mozilla each scrambled in issuing their own mitigations against Spectre and Meltdown, which were, in essence, hacking techniques.
