  • Despite “Pixel vs iPhone” Google phone sales are tiny

Latest data from market tracker IDC reveals that the company shipped 3.9 million units of Pixel smartphones in 2017.

According to IDC's research director Francisco Jeronimo, Google doubled shipments of Pixel smartphones in 2017 with 3.9 million units sold.

Kuwait urges broad participation in reconstruction of Iraq
Large parts of Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul, are still in ruins, more than six months after it was retaken by the government. Meanwhile France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian visited Iraq on Monday to discuss the war-torn country's reconstruction.

As hinted above, Google could have more success in attracting consumers by expanding the availability of the Pixel line. Nearly immediately, the Pixel 2 XL was ravaged by various technical issues affecting the device's screen and audio. And it's just a sliver compared with the 77.3 million iPhones Apple sold in the last quarter alone.

Google occasionally dabbles with pop-up stores for the holidays, and it has some dedicated displays inside electronics stores, but it's missing a standalone retail presence.

Allegri Fires Back After Draw With Tottenham
Gonzalo Higuain struck first for Juventus inside two minutes and added a second from a penalty after a foul by Ben Davies. What he did next had Tottenham's hopes soaring and fired a result that showed they belong at this rarefied level.

Further, the original Pixel and Pixel XL were released in October 2016, meaning they were only available for a portion of that year whereas they were available for the whole of 2017. Over 90 percent of phone sales are sold through carriers. This will surely be welcome news for Google as it continues to grow the Pixel brand.

On one hand, selling basically every Pixel phone you make is a good thing, but Google probably would have sold a lot more if it had met the demand. For Google, that's not too shabby for a newcomer - it's twice the number of Pixels from the year before - but overall it's still pretty weak, and a sign that there's a long road ahead before the company even comes close to challenging Apple and Samsung.

Virginia gets No. 1 overall seed in preliminary NCAA Tournament bracket
John's and Purdue to Ohio State and Michigan State, Sunday's seedings included only the top 16 and bracketed them by region. For the second consecutive year, the NCAA Tournament selection committee unveiled its sneak peek of the brackets on Sunday.

The Google Pixel phones have been very well received since they first appeared in 2016. Carrier deals make a huge difference in a country where nearly all phones are sold via carriers. In fact, Apple and HMD Global will be the only major vendors to see an increase in sales this year as the smartphone market matures. That said, the company is quickly picking up ground with its Pixel lineup, with sales in the past year doubling.
