  • Woman gives birth and leaves note after abandoning infant son in Arizona airport bathroom as authorities ask for public's help in identifying her

An airport employee found the child January 14 abandoned in a restroom near the rental vehicle counters.

The woman on the surveillance video arrived at the Tucson International Airport as an expectant mother - and walked out without her newborn baby.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital and is now in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

The woman told the custodian she was okay and that she just had her period before she quickly left the restroom, police said.

Authorities developed this timeline based on the amount of blood found inside a toilet stall and on some items of clothing found stashed inside a rubbish bin in the first bathroom. "Please get me to the authorities so they can find a good home".

"I just want what's best for him": Mother abandons baby in airport bathroom Authorities at the Tucson International Airport are looking for a woman who abandoned a newborn baby.

Authorities described the mystery woman as being aged in her mid-20s and said she was wearing black leggings and a coat. The custodian later found bloody clothes stuffed under paper towels in the trash can.

Arizona is a "safe haven" state, therefore a person may surrender a child to authorities without being punished.

The baby was found at Tucson International Airport in Arizone in the U.S. on January 14.

Over the last 20 years USA states have introduced safe-haven laws allowing newborn babies to be left at designated areas such as hospitals and firehouses, to prevent the precarious practice of dumping unwanted infants on doorsteps or under bushes.

"We would like to know who she is but we've exhausted our resources", said airport spokeswoman Jessie Butler.

Arizona has a "safe haven" law, meaning a newborn - no more than 3 days old - can be left at hospitals, churches, fire houses and similar locations.

However, it is not known whether the baby's mother will face charges if found as airports are not considered a "safehaven" under the law. There are a lot of different things that are probably going through a mother's mind.
