A strong natural disaster of magnitude 6.1 jolted northern Afghanistan capital Kabul on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said, with tremors felt as far away as New Delhi and Islamabad.

The epicenter of the quake was Jarm in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

Reports indicated that the region from Jammu & Kashmir to Delhi felt the tremors.

The tremors were felt strongly in the Valley, with people rushing out of buildings and vehicles.

Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday.

However, no casualties or damage have been reported yet in India but one person died and several injured in Balochistan.

There have been no reports of damage in Kabul or in Islamabad, both of which were shaken by the impact.

Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range, which lies near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.

According to news agency PTI, tremors have been felt in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar in Pakistan.
