President Donald Trump said in a British television interview Friday that he was ready to apologize for retweeting anti-Muslim videos from a far-right British group, and he reiterated his assertions that he is not a racist.

Trump's "know nothing" answer strained credulity.

He did, however, say that Trump was reluctant to apologize, the Daily Mail reports.

During the interview, which will air on Sunday, Jan. 28, Trump also said he has a very good relationship with Prime Minister May despite what people think.

Some Britons are angry at the prospect of a visit by Trump with large protests expected when he does arrive, most probably in the second half of the year according to a senior British government source.

"I don't know who they are. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about".

In the teaser, the U.S. president said sorry for retweeting the UK's anti-Muslim videos which sparked outrage in Britain.

"If you are telling me they're terrible people, awful racist people, I would certainly apologise if you'd like me to do that".

The video showed alleged Muslim migrants purportedly thrashing a disabled Dutch boy.

He said he had made the retweets because he was concerned about the threat posed by radical Islamic extremists.

Morgan, who actually tweeted at Trump the day he posted the videos to "Please STOP this madness and undo your retweets", classified the president's words as a public apology.

Trump was less apologetic about tweeting the content of the unverified videos, saying he was a "big believer in fighting radical Islamic terror", repeating his relentless attacks on Islam and demonization of Muslims. The first of these was that he had good reason to share the videos, since, he said, they depicted "radical Islamic terror", and he wanted to do his part to draw attention to such behavior.

"The real me is someone who loves Britain, who loves the U.K.", Trump said.

When Morgan asked for an apology for enraging much of the United Kingdom.

Morgan accused Trump of causing "huge anxiety and anger in my country, because Britain First is basically a bunch of racists, fascists".

The three clips were previously tweeted by Britain First deputy leader Jayda Fransen, who was convicted by a United Kingdom court in November 2016 of religiously aggravated harassment.

Late last November White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said that the president doesn't check everything that he tweets but that he "knew what the issues are".
