Syria peace talks resume

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will send his Syria peace negotiator to a conference in Russian Federation next week, a spokesman said Saturday, despite the Syrian opposition's boycott of the meeting.

UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura said that the talks are being held at a "very, very critical" time.

The United Nations has sponsored eight rounds of fruitless peace talks in Geneva since the war began in 2011, a conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands and driven millions from their homes while dragging in world and regional powers.
