West of Paris, the Seine River burst its banks in some spots and spread to nearly twice its usual breadth between the towns of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Le Pecq.

Floodwaters are nearing their peak in Paris, with the rain-swollen Seine River engulfing scenic quays and threatening wine cellars and museum basements. The river level is expected to peak on Sunday night or Monday.

In the suburb of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, flooding forced some residents into boats to move along the roads.

The Seine burst its banks earlier this week when water levels reached just over 5 meters (17 feet).

Matt Busch, a 22-year-old accounting senior from Plymouth, agreed that Simon was a good president and said he's sad to see her go. When asked, Simon said that she was told that an investigation has been started, against a specialist sports medicine doctor.

However, the highest rise in water level of Seine was in 1910, when the numbers were reported to be as high as 28 feet.

The water level is expected to reach 20 feet by Saturday, which is 13 feet higher than its normal height, according to the latest official weather bulletin.

About 400 people have been evacuated thus far as continued rising flood waters in Paris caused the Seine River to overflow its banks, authorities said. "I understand that people might fear the floods because of the strength of the current but here we are in a port, no current, so there is no fear".

By Tuesday, the river breached its stone walls and began flooding adjacent walkways and roads, forcing City Hall to declare an Orange-level alert, its second-highest warning.

Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo said the city was coping - but said that the flooding, coupled with recent summer heatwaves, was "clearly a question of the town adapting to climate change".

But this week, the French capital looks more like a city of water.

Joao De Macedo, manager of a building on the right bank, said: "The first residents left three days ago and yesterday or the day before". Police forces and fire brigades were already on site, patrolling flooded streets on small boats.

Meteorologists report that over the past week in the basin of the Seine, had a two-week rainfall.
