  • Judge Rosemarie Aquilina sentenced former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar to 40 to 175 years in prison for sexual abuse

Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon has yielded to demands that she step down over MSU's handling of the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal.

That is why Simon is no longer the president of Michigan State University. Nassar, a former MSU doctor, was sentenced to 40-175 years in prison earlier today.

The pressure intensified Wednesday, as Nassar was sentenced after more than 150 women testified about sexual abuse they had suffered in a period spanning two decades.

Matt Busch, a 22-year-old accounting senior from Plymouth, agreed that Simon was a good president and said he's sad to see her go. The work that she has done has been incredible, academically and research focused, the things that she's been able to bring and fundraise for the institution and acknowledging all of that.

Myanmar readies for returning Rohingyas
The government on Wednesday unveiled to the media, including NHK, a pre-fab immigration facility near its border with Bangladesh. It was not possible to independently verify the accounts as Myanmar has heavily restricted access to the area.

Carter says MSU will eventually move on from Nassar, but not easily. Today, the Michigan House of Representatives approved a resolution that called for her to either resign or be fired. Statements from Nassar's survivors come from young women and girls Nassar sexually abused and molested.

Yesterday, hours after Larry Nassar was sentenced to spend the rest of his miserable life in a jail cell, the president of thew institution where he was employed stepped down as its president.

The women tell a consistent story: During osteopathic treatment for an injury, Nassar penetrated their vagina and/or anus with his ungloved fingers, and he typically did it without consent or much explanation. Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo also expressed his support for Simon in a controversial interview that was widely criticized, most notably by the mother of two-time Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman. "Ironically, had she left in December of 2016, nothing that happened after that would have happened to her and resignation last night might not have been an option", Skubick said. And while the student newspaper has called forcefully for her resignation, powerful voices have insulted Nassar's victims by digging in on her side. The university's response to this crisis simply hasn't been good enough, and I hope that changes going forward for the sake of both the victims and the entire Michigan State University community.

When asked, Simon said that she was told that an investigation has been started, against a specialist sports medicine doctor. A victim, Rachael Denhollander, said Michigan State was "compounding the damage" by the way it responded to the scandal.

'Perfect' Singer Engaged to Childhood Friend Cherry Seaborn
The singer made the announcement via his official Instagram account, writing: "Got myself a fiance just before new year". Despite their different career paths, the pair came together in 2015 when they bumped into each other in a bar in NY .

Ms Denhollander said trauma she suffered had "cast a horrific shadow" over her medical care when she gave birth to three children, including two daughters.

Larry Nassar is due back in a Lansing, Michigan, courtroom Tuesday.

At least 35 more victims want to speak. He was previously sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography, and he will be sentenced January 31 in an Eaton County criminal sexual conduct case.
