  • Kyle Edmund battles past Andreas Seppi into last eight

Kyle Edmund made the biggest breakthrough of his career at the Australian Open on Sunday as he beat Andreas Seppi to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time.

Edmund, 23, advanced to the last eight of the Australian Open on Sunday with a gutsy 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Italian Andreas Seppi.

Edmund, the lone Briton in the men's draw after the withdrawal of Andy Murray, slammed 25 aces on Hisense Arena.

With a current ATP ranking of 49, Edmund is clearly a work in progress, but heading in the right direction. And he may not be done yet. "Although it was quite a close first set I didn't feel like I got off to the best start", he said. "I'm playing well, feeling good and I want to keep pushing on as well as I can".

Gruden has prior history with Oakland, serving as the head coach for four seasons and compiling a 38-26 record over the span. Former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, however, was apparently eager to get back to coaching for the 2018 season.

As he had done in the second set, though, Dimitrov played a poor game serving for it and back came Kyrgios. I had to shift the momentum, took control in the second set. "I am very happy".

As Kyle Edmund tucked into a hearty meal in the Melbourne Park players' restaurant about an hour after another hard-fought victory at the Australian Open, his energetic and talkative coach, Fredrik "Fidde" Rosengren, sat about 15 metres away extolling the virtues of his charge. I just have to learn for myself where I haven't been getting it right to get it right.

"I think that's obviously encouraging, but in terms of messages from back home, it's generally the same people that messaged me past year". "It was an impressive performance".

But Edmund has a lot of confidence in his game and himself and, having won four matches, does not consider another three to be beyond him.

They're just bad people.' Well, yeah, most Muslims believe that to have sex with men is OK, which I don't like it all. In a following episode he revealed what he felt about gay people: "You know, I don't like gay people".

World number three Dimitrov was tested by Edmund in the Brisbane International this month, the Bulgarian needing to come from a set down to win that quarter-final match. Two games later, he held from 0-30 and and he won another tight game to force a tiebreak.

It went with serve until Seppi punished Edmund for running round his backhand far too often with a forehand victor and then produced another off the other wing to take it 7-4.

Edmund appeared to struggle to find his range in the first set and was forced to save five break points in the eighth game of the opener. Suddenly it was Edmund who was looking the fresher and at 6-5, Seppi sent a forehand wide, off the net, as Edmund levelled the match.

He was completely in control at the start of the third set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead before allowing Seppi the briefest of respites. Stepping in to attack the Italian's second serve, an inside out backhand victor helped him break for 2-0 and a second break in the eighth game gave him the set.

Since almost being eliminated in the second round by Jana Fett - Wozniacki trailed 5-1 in the third set before winning the last six games - she has won her next two matches in straight sets. Edmund then served out the match easily, clinching victory with another unreturnable serve.
