  • Emmanuel Macron and Theresa May are expected to make announcements tomorrow on the tapestry and new defence links

Just hours before he arrived in the country Mr Macron's aide said that France would "look with kindness" if Britain chose to reverse its decision to exit the European Union.

The tough message risked putting a sour note at the end of a meeting created to show the strength of Anglo-French relations, despite the UK's exit from the EU.

Britain's departure from the European Union should not prevent a high level of cooperation with France, President Emmanuel Macron has said at the end of a British-French summit.

Macron also came with the news that France will loan Britain the Bayeux Tapestry, an 11th-century panorama depicting the Norman conquest of England.

Earlier this week, Mr Macron said he would not allow the shantytown to reappear in the city, but he did criticise the Dublin rules, calling instead for an "integrated" European Union system that would not force refugees to seek asylum in the first country they arrived in.

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho announces retirement
The 37-year-old achieved every accolade available in the sport including the World Cup, the Champions League and the Ballon d'Or . He later moved to the Gremio senior team in 1998 and then went to Europe to play for French club Paris St-Germain in 2001.

"Unaccompanied children on French soil must be given full access to shelter, mental and physical health services, and other basic services such as access to food, water and sanitation", the letter reads.

But he bluntly repeated the EU's line that Britain needed to sign up to the single market and accept European laws if it wanted a post-Brexit deal on the financial services sector.

The two leaders fought hard to underline that Brexit had not dominated the talks.

A source close to the foreign secretary told the that Mr Johnson had suggested to President Macron that a new "fixed link" between United Kingdom and France was needed.

The French President branded the current situation in Calais as "not satisfactory" and claimed the new deal would allow him to meet his promise that after Brexit "migrants will no longer be in Calais".

"Even if it can be moved from France, I think it is more likely to be exhibited somewhere like the British or Victoria and Albert Museum in London where it would be seen by many more people".

Britain vowed to stump up mote the £44.5million after agreeing to support the country with border controls in Calais.

But Macron, visiting Britain's army officer training academy for a guard of honour, was clear that, in his mind, there was no trade-off on the border in favour of Brexit.

And France will in 2019 contribute troops to the UK-led battlegroup in Estonia to counter Russian aggression.

"Today's Summit will underline that we remain committed to defending our people and upholding our values as liberal democracies in the face of any threat, whether at home or overseas", she said.

The 15-year-old Treaty of Le Touquet between France and Britain on migration controls has resulted in massive bottlenecks of migrants stranded on the French side of the border.
