  • Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs to replace Chris Coleman as next Wales manager

Ever since Ryan Giggs chose to retire from playing and move into coaching at Manchester United, later becoming caretaker manager when David Moyes was sacked, he has always had his eyes set on becoming a manager.

"I don't master the rhythm of it, but it could happen today, tomorrow or not at all", he said.

The Manchester United icon was capped 64 times by his country, scoring 12 goals, although he never featured at a major tournament on the worldwide stage.

Giggs ended his playing career in 2014 and was Louis van Gaal's assistant at Old Trafford for the following two seasons, before leaving United in 2016 after Jose Mourinho was appointed as manager.

Coleman spent almost six years as Wales manager before leaving to take over relegation-threatened Sunderland in November.

"I have spoken to him over the last 24 hours".

"I am so proud to have been given the honour of managing the national team", Giggs told the official Football Association of Wales website.

"He made his debut in '91 I think it was in the qualifier and he didn't play a friendly for nine years I think until 2000 so good luck trying to get the players together!" Who can forget watching us at the Euros?

"I want all the players to report for every game".

"The beauty of football is that everyone has an opinion and you have to take that. It's just about striking that balance and all I can do is work as hard as I can to produce a winning team".

"I'll do exactly what I did when I was a player, be professional, give it my all and enjoy it".

The 44-year-old saw off competition from Craig Bellamy, Mark Bowen, and Coleman's former assistant, Osian Roberts, with the FAW chief executive, Jonathan Ford, admitting he had been encouraged by his "passion and dedication" in Thursday's interview.

'There's a conversation to be had, ' Giggs said. I will speak to him in more depth but I also want to be my own manager.
