As for North American Truck of the Year, the redesigned 2018 Lincoln Navigator beat out the also-redesigned Ford Expedition - which shares the same underpinnings and platform as the Nav - and the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, which interestingly enough, was the only pickup on the list.

The Car of the Year award is reserved for models that are new, or significantly updated, for 2018. It's the first award for the Lincoln Navigator SUV. The Volvo XC60 and Honda Civic both took top honors in 2016.

"Lincoln is honored to be named the best among such a strong field of competitors", said Kumar Galhotra, president, The Lincoln Motor Company.
