  • Khawlah Noman 11 says a man tried to cut off her hijab while she was walking to school in Toronto

Toronto police are searching for a man who allegedly cut a young girl's hijab with a pair of scissors on her way to school.

After the attack, Noman told local reporters that she was scared to walk to school.

Afterward, according to Sidhu, the girl noticed a 12-inch cut from the bottom up on the back of her hijab.

Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu told a press conference that Noman had turned and confronted her assailant, making loud noises to scare him off and then she ran away with her little brother in tow.

11 year old Kahawlah Noman was walking to school when a man dressed in black came up behind her, pulled off her hood and started cutting.

Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, tweeted his support for Kwalah on Friday.

"My heart goes out to Khawlah Noman following this morning's cowardly attack on her in Toronto". We are shocked to learn of this assault and we will be working closely with police to offer any assistance that we can. "We must stand firm in our support to this young girl who was assaulted simply for wearing a hijab".

"I want her and her family and her friends and community to know that that is not what Canada is and that is not who Canadians are".

"No child should ever be afraid walking to school in Toronto because of what they are wearing or for any other reason", he said in a statement. "Intolerance and hate of any kind, including islamophobia, has no place in our city, our province, or our country". This does not represent who we are.

I join with all Toronto residents in standing up to such an act of hatred.
