The bus came to a stop after its tires were deflated in Lake County, Illinois at I-94 and Route 173.

The situation led police to chase the bus, and then stop it with spike strips on the IL side of the state line.

He and other 40 passengers were left shaken by the ordeal and wondering why it took so long for the bus driver to stop after police began their chase. Once it finally stopped, another passenger says police had their weapons drawn on everyone.

Schmaling said the Racine County District Attorney will work through the process of having Vargas-Rosas extradited back to Wisconsin. He is in the country illegally, Schmaling said, noting that he had been deported to Mexico some time ago.

Authorities are still not sure if Vargas-Rosas actually possessed a gun on the bus, but Schmaling said he certainly acted as though he might pull one out and use it.

The threats were apparently made after an altercation with two passengers on the bus, according to Schmaling.
