GOP senator: Reports of Trump's 's---hole' comments a 'gross misrepresentation'

15 January, 2018, 00:34 | Author: Kim Reid

Cotton and Perdue hold the same anti-immigration views as Trump and are allies of the president. David Perdue went on ABC's "This Week" to call reports that Trump used vile language in the meeting a "gross misrepresentation".

If Congress doesn't reach agreement on crucial immigration issues and pass a spending bill, the costly outcome would be a government shutdown.

Trump later tweeted Friday morning that he "Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country".

Democrats have tied the immigration talks to spending negotiations being held ahead of a Friday shutdown deadline.

Many Democrats and some Republicans have said they won't vote for the money bill unless it includes a solution for the Dreamers. But two immigration hard-liners, Republican Sens. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), who was in attendance, told him that Trump's reported comments were "basically accurate".

But one GOP participant, Sen. Durbin also said that Sen. Davild Perdue (R-Ga.) issued a joint statement Friday suggesting otherwise. Dick Durbin's most recent comments and additional reporting.

38 minutes of fear: How a Hawaii missile alert test went wrong
He said that North Korea is a constant concern, given the threat of nuclear missiles. "The warning was a mistake", Miyagi said. Minnesota Musician Kat Perkins, who was on vacation as well, said she was on her way to snorkel when she received the alert.

Stephanopoulos pressed Perdue, saying that multiple sources have confirmed the president's language, of whom the most outspoken has been Senator Dick Durbin, D-Illinois. Ask anyone who's dealt with both, ' Marter said.

Manchin told CBS News' "Face the Nation" that he didn't believe "any senator would walk in and make something up so atrocious" as Mr. Trump's use of the word "sh*thole" to describe several poor countries.

Host Chris Wallace told Nielsen it "seems implausible" that she would not recall that type of comment. "I don't recall that specific phrase being used, that's all I can say about that". "That's all I can say about that".

But Coons has blasted recent comments by Trump denigrating African countries and saying the US doesn't want immigrants from those countries or from Haiti. "We have to stand out; we have to speak up and not try to sweep it under the rug".

Both Perdue and Cotton have selfish personal reasons for lying to Trump. The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel, ' Graham said in a statement Saturday.

The allegation against Trump came as pro-immigration senators tried to pitch Trump on a deal to protect younger immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.

Instead, Trump had also invited some of Congress' hard-line opponents of the bipartisan agreement being put together by the six-member working group led by Durbin and Graham.

"We must not give up or give in", Lewis said.

"We've got to move on".

A federal judge in California last week halted Trump's decision to end the DACA program and ruled that participants in the program should retain their legal status.

Trump is claimed to have questioned why the U.S. was would accept more immigrants from Haiti and "sh**hole" countries.
