Giannis Antetokounmpo leads first All-Star vote returns

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the early leading vote getter for the 67th NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles, besting LeBron James by about 7,300 votes. Kevin Durant received the most votes in the Western Conference, and among front court players, with 767,402 votes, while Stephen Curry leads the guards in the west with 735,115.
In the Eastern Conference, Antetokounmpo (863,416), James (856,080) and Philadelphia's Joel Embiid were the top three frontcourt players in the first fan vote. Boston's Kyrie Irving leads the guards with 802,834 votes, followed by Toronto's DeMar DeRozan (259,368) and Indiana's Victor Oladipo (251,886). The captains will be the All-Star starters from each conference who receive the most fan votes in respective conferences.
The starters, including the two captains, will be announced January 18 on TNT. The leading vote-receiver from each conference will be given rights to choose his team, but starters will be pre-determined by the results. The first series of voting returns are in, and while the top player in the Western Conference won't come as a surprise to anyone, we do have a surprise at the top of the Eastern Conference. The fan vote, measured above, is worth 50 percent of the voting, while players and certain media members will also submit ballots, which will be worth 25 percent each.
This year's NBA All-Star voting, though, has shown that the generation beyond that may be foremost in the minds of fans.
Through 38 games, the two-time All-Star MVP is averaging 27.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and a career-high 9.1 assists per game.
Players will be sorted by conference and position (guards and frontcourt players), and the two top guards and three top frontcourt players will be named starters.
World oil prices on the rise
Inventories are now down by nearly 20% from their historic highs last March and well below this time a year ago or in 2015. Brent crude futures-the global benchmark-were also up, rising 45 cents or 0.7% to $66.61 a barrel, CNBC reported.
If the voting holds, there's a strong likelihood that Durant or Curry will end up as one of the captains for the game, which will increase the pressure on a player who is forced to draft his remaining 11 teammates.
