  • FILE-Federal Communication Commission Commissioner Ajit Pai speaking during a FCC meeting in Washington Friday Aug. 9 2013. President Donald Trump designated Pai as FCC Chairman in 2017

FCC Commissioner AJIT PAI has pulled out of an appearance at CES 2018 in LAS VEGAS next week. What's more, Pai was taken to task for continually refusing to answer pointed questions and valid concerns about the consequences that would result from repealing net neutrality.

On Dec. 14, the Federal Communications Commission adopted its Restoring internet Freedom Order (RIF Order) repealing public utility-like regulations imposed on internet service providers in 2015 by the Obama administration FCC.

Pai has consistently attended CES for half a decade. But Pai and his family have faced harassment over the controversial decision to repeal the rule.

The FCC established net neutrality regulations to reclassify broadband as Title II "common carriers" under the Communications Act of 1934.

This marks the first time in five years that he has missed the show and would have been his first appearance as Chairman.

Digital Music News, which has covered the net neutrality debate, cited two unidentified "sources on Capitol Hill" in reporting the reason for the cancellation just days before Pai was scheduled to appear.

Amb. Nikki Haley Speaks Out on International Incidents
She also condemned North Korean aggression, saying the USA will never accept a nuclear Pyongyang. During her speech, Haley further pressed the global community to support the Iranian people.

Pai was slated to participate in a "candid conversation" on 9th January with FTC Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen, who will still attend.

We've reached out to the FCC for comment on why its chairman was not available. Pai has been widely criticized after his FCC voted to roll back net neutrality legislation that protected consumers.

Finds that the regulatory uncertainty created by utility-style Title II regulation has reduced Internet service provider (ISP) investment in networks, as well as hampered innovation, particularly among small ISPs serving rural consumers. The agency's meeting room was briefly evacuated and searched.
