  • Kim Jong-un Wants to Send Delegation to Pyeongchang Olympics

Kim said in his New Year's speech Monday that the DPRK will take necessary measures to prepare to participate in the South Korea-hosted winter sports event, including the inter-Korean dialogue on the DPRK's participation.

Kim also said he was open to dialogue with Seoul, prompting South Korea on Tuesday to propose high-level talks between the two countries on January 9 at the border truce village of Panmunjeom.

Dressed in a western-style grey suit and tie, Kim added, however, that the North's nuclear arsenal played a purely deterrent role. Relations between the Koreas have plunged as North Korea has expanded its weapons programs amid a hard-line stance by Moon's conservative predecessors.

Kim's hostile comments were offset by a diplomatic message.

Lest anyone think the isolated dictator has gone soft, however, Kim also used the speech to brag that North Korea is now capable of hitting the entire US mainland with its nuclear weapons and to warn that "the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office" should the USA dare to attack them.

Erica Garner , who became a well-known activist after her father, Eric Garner , died in police custody, has died at the age of 27. With former president Obama, Garner criticized his reactions to her father's death and the slow pace of the DOJ investigation.

The main venues for the Games are just 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the heavily fortified border with North Korea and the build-up to the event has been overshadowed by the nuclear weapons standoff.

Kim said in his speech Monday that North Korea past year achieved the historic feat of "completing" its nuclear forces.

Last year, North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test and test-launched three intercontinental ballistic missiles as part of its push to possess a nuclear missile capable of reaching anywhere in the United States.

"Kim Jong Un's strategy remains the same".

South Korea's president, Moon Jae-in, has encouraged Pyongyang to send a delegation to the Games, hoping their presence would help ease tensions on the Korean peninsula.

I didn't get a chance to personally see the replay. "They couldn't review it, but that's something the league has to deal with". The dunk gave Milwaukee a 97-95 win after OKC guard Russell Westbrook tied the contest with five seconds left.

The PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games were scheduled to be held in February in South Korea's namesake county of PyeongChang in the eastern Gangwon province. "The United States can never start a war against me and our country".

He said the North and South could meet urgently to discuss the North sending a delegation. Alternatively, he may see this as an opportunity to drive a wedge between his enemies if South Korea, which has no appetite for war with the North, attempts to make a deal that the Trump administration won't support.

"This is reality not a threat".

"The U.S. should know that the button for nuclear weapons is on my table", he said, according to the Associated Press translation, in a speech carried by state television.
