For nearly the entire first half Thursday night, Virginia Tech looked like it had almost everything under control. Through the first 30 minutes, the Hokies did that, but costly mistakes helped the Cowboys to a 13-7 lead.

With the Cowboys holding steadily to a 27-21 lead late in the fourth quarter, and trying to run out the clock against Virginia Tech, the ball - and the outcome of the game - was put into the hands of Justice Hill. Despite missing starting wide receiver Cam Phillips, Tech (9-4) surprisingly managed to outgain Oklahoma State 518-492 in yardage, but the Cowboys found their offensive groove after the half.

A key point in the game was early in the second quarter when Virginia Tech, with a first and goal already up 7-3, fumbles and OSU senior Ramon Richards gets the recovery. Running back Justice Hill capped it off with a touchdown to give Oklahoma State the lead. On the 18 play, Tech was poised to punch it into the end zone for would've been its longest scoring drive of the season in terms of plays, yards and time of possession.

The ensuing possession for Oklahoma State ended with a 36-yard field goal after the Hokies' defense stopped a promising looking drive for the second time of the night. Running back Steven Peoples accounted for 56 of those yards. One play switched momentum Oklahoma State's direction for good. Rudolph went to work after a pass interference penalty on the Hokies. His two touchdown throws gave him 37 on the season, tying Brandon Weeden's school mark. That cut OSU's lead to 20-14 with 6:31 left in the third quarter.

James Washington caught five passes for 126 yards, making him the career receiving yards leader at Oklahoma State.

Rudolph was 11-for-16 for 150 yards in the first half, though the Hokies held Biletnikoff Award-winning receiver James Washington to one catch for no yards.
