Alabama makes Jones win official as Moore's last-ditch challenge fails

  • Roy Moore issued a statement today persisting with his claims of election fraud and saying that he has no regrets about the Senate race. The statement came after the state canvassing board certified Doug Jones victory over Moore

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill said his office has so far found no evidence of fraud.

"It is not going to delay certification and Doug Jones will be certified [on Thursday] at 1 pm and he will be sworn in by Vice-President Pence on 3 January", Mr Merrill said. His swearing will come three weeks after his upset victory against Moore to give Alabama its first Democratic Senator in 20 years.

"As I said on election night, our victory marks a new chapter for our state and our nation". Jones said he will be an "independent voice" in the Senate and will strive for "common ground with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle". He unexpectedly lost to Jones by about 20,000 votes in the special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, who is now US attorney general.

He will takeover the seat previously held by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The company is likely to launch the P20 at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC), which kicks off in February next year. The previous version, called the Huawei P10 , was launched earlier this year at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona.

If the election is prematurely certified, Mr. Moore's lawyers wrote, he will "suffer irreparable harm" and be "denied his full right as a candidate to a fair election".

The Alabama State Canvassing Board, which includes Gov. Kay Ivey, Secretary of State John Merrill and Attorney General Steve Marshall, signed the certification to officially confirm Jones' stunning victory over embattled Republican Roy Moore.

Alabama officials on Thursday certified Democrat Doug Jones the victor of the state's U.S. Senate race, after a state judge denied a legal challenge by Republican Roy Moore, whose campaign was derailed by accusations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls. The Republican faced multiple sexual misconduct allegations in the month before the election.

The firebrand jurist filed a lawsuit Wednesday in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, Ala. calling for an investigation into claims of possible voter fraud. Previously, Merrill has said it is "highly unlikely" that Jones would not be certified as the victor of the election.

In order to achieve this, he added, state-of-the-art mass transit systems are the need of the hour. He added that he would always remain grateful to the people of Uttar Pradesh for their affection.

"The people of Alabama have spoken and Moore lost".

Janet Porter, a spokeswoman for Moore's campaign, told CNN in an interview on Thursday that the challenge aimed to ensure that votes were properly counted. He said Moore's complaint seemed to boil down to the belief that he should have won based on exit polling and that the high turnout, including by African-American voters, must indicate fraud.

Along with his lawsuit, Moore also submitted an affidavit claiming that he took a polygraph test "within days" of the special election.

"This is not a Republican or Democrat issue as election integrity should matter to everyone", Moore said in a statement Wednesday.

Odisha Celebrates Christmas with Joy and Fervour
