  • Trump White House docks United Nations budget $285M after Jerusalem backlash

On Sunday, the United States applauded a $285 million cut that had been made in the U.N.'s core budget, after the General Assembly adopted a $5.396 billion budget for 2018-2019, just below the $5.4 billion that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had sought.

At a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Trump was quoted by the UK's The Guardian newspaper as saying, "Let them (Nigeria and other countries benefitting from the USA financial aids) vote against us".

She added, "This historic reduction in spending, in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable United Nations is a big step in the right direction". "While we are pleased with the results of this year's budget negotiations, you can be sure we'll continue to look at ways to increase the UN's efficiencyā€ˇ while protecting our interests", Haley said.

Guterres has proposed capping the United Nations biennial budget at $5.4 billion, shaving off $200 million from the 2016-17 budget.

The United States provides for 22 percent of the U.N.'s core budget, and Haley commented in a statement that "inefficiency and overspending" were "well known" at the world agency.

President Donald Trump should have called him before the Jerusalem decision, amid Trump's move to recognize the holy city as Israel's capital and a United Nations resolution denouncing his decision, Hurriyet writes.

The final tally was 128-9, with 35 nations abstaining, including five members of the European Union.

Trump on Wednesday had blamed several nations of taking help from U.S. and not returning the favour when needed.

The UN vote last week, in which a resounding majority of member states declared Trump's move to be null and void, constituted "a worldwide vote of no confidence" in the U.S. president, "from which Israel will suffer the next time it seeks to draft the global community to some joint effort against Iran or any other enemy", stated the analysis, published on the weekend.

He added that the good Americans are exhausted of being taken advantage of, "well, we're not going to be taken advantage of any longer".

Man Planned Christmas Day Attack in San Francisco
Pier 39, packed with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops, is one of San Francisco's most popular tourist spots . Officials have stopped a man who they say was plotting a terror attack in San Francisco over the holidays.

Haley also threatened during her speech at the Security Council December 18 that she will use veto power during the voting to defend her country's sovereignty and the peace process in the Middle East.

"But this isn't like it used to be where they could vote against you (the US) and then you pay them hundreds of millions of dollars". Prior to the vote on Thursday, the resolution was voted on in the UNSC.

The United States has claimed it was "singled out" for a joint attack by the United Nations.

"Well, we're watching those votes", he added. Unsurprisingly the vote was referred to as "preposterous" by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The main reason for the success of the resolution against Trump was the Jerusalem is a holy site for multiple religions and recognising it as the capital of Israel would make it a de facto Jewish city.

Top EU Court Rules Uber Is A Taxi Service
