According to Darren Rovell, the WWE recently filed for the "He Hate Me" trademark, which was abandoned by XFL player Rod Smart in 2011, which also hints that an XFL resurgence is in the works.

McMahon - who's now 72-years old - wants to right some old wrongs and he could be thinking about reviving the XFL.

McMahon reportedly founded Alpha Entertainment LLC in September, which has since filed for a number of XFL-related trademarks, as well as trademarks for the names "URFL", "UFL" and "United Football League".

WWE released the following report today informing stockholders that McMahon has no intention of selling any more stock and will continue as the company's Chairman and CEO.

"On December 21, 2017, Vincent K. McMahon ("Mr. McMahon"), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc".

A statement from WWE on the growing speculation said: "Vince McMahon has established and is personally funding a separate entity from WWE, Alpha Entertainment, to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football". Rovell also reported that McMahon sold 3.34 million in WWE stock worth about $100 million.

Vince McMahon could be flirting with an XFL relaunch, the football league he started that lasted one season in 2011, the website Deadspin wrote.

The report also said that McMahon only sold 4.3 percent of the company's total outstanding shares and showed that McMahon now holds 82.8 percent of the company's voting power after the sale.
