Apple admits to slowing older iPhones over battery issues

Like most people, you might be considering the option of replacing the phone entirely without attempting to have it checked out.
That is the question many iPhone owners ask themselves whenever a new iPhone is released or they install a new software update on an older iPhone.
However, Apple said in a statement to The Verge that it is slowing down processors not to push customers to upgrade to new phones, but because it makes it easier for older batteries in iPhones to continue performing after they started aging. iPhones essentially hit peaks of processing power that the battery can not keep up with as they age.
"I don't think they'd lose customers [to Samsung] ... if you're an Apple love, you're an Apple lover". After I updated my phone reluctantly I might add, my phone started acting very slow, but again we sounded insane when we said this was Apple's doing. Apple subsequently extended that functionality to include the iPhone 7.
The company said its software updates for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone SE and iPhone 7 are created to "smooth out" peak power demands, prevent these surprise shutdowns and ultimately prolong the lifespan of batteries. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components. Geekbenchreports that iOS 11.2.0 introduces similar throttling for low iPhone 7 low capacity batteries. But it's largely shrugged off with smartphones - it doesn't help that the battery is not user replaceable.
However, because Apple also markets itself as one of the best in terms of customer service, an additional support for battery fix should not be as drastic. And because it's so gradual, progressively shorter battery life is ignored by most people, until it's time for a new iPhone.
The throttling effects were reported by Geekbench developer John Pool who took to social media to post the effects of Apple's decision to slow down the processing speed of the older iPhones for the sake of battery life. Or will they still upgrade to a new iPhone?
