  • Pentagon Never Admitted Having Secret UFO Program. Until Now

Most of the program's 22 million dollars a year - within the U.S. military budget of some 600 billion dollars - went to Bigelow Aerospace, based in Reid's home state of Nevada.

"This was so-called 'black money, '" Reid told the Times. Despite receiving $22 million in annual funding, the existence of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program has never been acknowledged by the Pentagon-until now, the New York Times reports.

The Las Vegas storage location (s) were constructed by Robert Bigelow, a friend of Reid's and a NASA contractor who is now working with the aerospace and aeronautics research agency on human habitats for outer space. Bigelow, a devout believer that aliens have visited Earth, is now working with NASA on producing space modules for human use.

He told the New York Times: "I'm not embarrassed or ashamed or sorry I got this thing going". "I believe it's one of the great things I did in my congressional administration".

"I left to find an environment where investigating these phenomena is priority number one", he said.

Arsenal Haven't Offered Mesut Ozil Final Contract - Arsene Wenger
He caught the eye against Huddersfield Town at the end of November, when he played a starring role in Arsenal's 5-0 win. The German global will be out of contract next summer and Arsenal will surely not want to lose him on a free transfer.

Still, the Pentagon's engagement here is a big surprise: This is one of the few times - if not the first - that an arm of the US government confirmed the existence of a modern program created to look into extraterrestrial events.

Reid confirmed the existence of the program, as did Pentagon officials, though the latter claim that the program ended in 2012.

Ms Ochoa said: "The DoD takes seriously all threats and potential threats to our people, our assets, and our mission and takes action whenever credible information is developed".

It also said initial funding came in large part because former Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid had a passion and enthusiasm for space phenomena.

The Times quoted Elizondo as saying that his successor at the Pentagon was continuing with investigative efforts.

Roots of Great Red Spot of Jupiter revealed by Juno
The Juno probe has conducted eight scientific flybys over Jupiter, dipping its trajectory across the gas giant's upper atmosphere. On Monday, scientists said that Juno had discovered a new area of radiation just above the planet's atmosphere at the equator.

At the time, the UFO comments were lost in the press of other campaign issues, including Wikileaks' release of purloined emails from Podesta's personal Gmail account.

The program cost federal taxpayers $22 million from late 2008 through 2011, according to contracts obtained by the newspaper that showed the funds were used for management of the program, research and assessments of the threat posed by the objects. "It was determined that there were other, higher priority issues that merited funding and it was in the best interest of the DOD to make a change", Pentagon spokesman Tom Crosson explained in a statement.

This isn't the first time such a program existed.

The records included UFO sightings and a collection of reports on flying saucers.

Today's articles are likely to return the decades-old debate to the spotlight.
